Sophie

See that face? (Ignore the towel.) Doesn't it just tug on your heartstrings? Let me tell you what has been going on with this little dog. For the last two years, we have been battling major UTI's and mounting vet bills. My carpet needs to be replaced in two rooms, even though they are only 3 years old. The veterinarians in our area just kept putting her on antibiotic after anitbiotic and not listening to our concerns that something major was wrong with our dog.

Fast forward to September. With the new baby on the way, and the possibility of Dan losing his job in a couple of months, we felt the best decision was to give her away to my grandparents who could hopefully get her to a vet that could help her. So, two weeks ago, I tearfully packed up all of her belongings and we drove her to Idaho.

Fast forward one week. Being the emotional pregnant woman that I am, I decided that I cannot live without this dog. We also found out what was wrong with her, she had 25, yes, you heard me right, 25 bladder stones that were as sharp as knives cutting away at her bladder. I was so angry that the other vets did not catch this, she has at least been suffering for a year or more. She underwent surgery and has been healing for a week. While we are not out of the woods yet, at least we now know what is wrong with Sophie and hopefully have the problem fixed. She is on an extremely strict diet, can't have hard water, and will have to be checked by a vet every 6 months for possibly the rest of her life.

Fast forward to today. I got my dog back and we have been snuggling on the couch for the last 2 hours. I am happy.

  1. I am sorry to hear about this. I am glad she is back with you and more comfortable. Now all you have to worry about is your newest addition. Why might Dan lose his job?

  2. Maren, ATK just doesn't have the work with Obama shutting down a lot of the space program. He's already been transferred deparments being told it's either this or the door, so we are just being proactive and trying to find something now as opposed to not having any income coming in and no prospects either! :(
