Summer Adventures: Boise

At the end of June, we decided to take a mini-vacation up to Boise to see my parents' new home and visit for a couple of days.  It was so hot, I think every day we were there it was well over 100 degrees.  To keep the kids entertained, we took them to a fun park the first day we were there.  I had to laugh because one of the first things the kiddos did was climb these huge rocks there at the park.  As you can see from the picture, Grandma Gleason had to help them down.  There were also lots of fun musical instruments to play:
To cool off we spent a lot of time in the water.  At that same park there was a fun pirate themed splash pad. We just let the kids jump in, clothes and all!  Grandma and Grandpa also have a pool in their neighborhood and Miss Allie took her first dip!

On the day that it reached 108 degrees, we thought it would be a good idea to go play some mini-golf.  It was too hot, even in the shade.  We played the Hillbilly Hollow course and Dan got lucky on one hole to get a hole in one.  I am not good at mini-golf, he beat me soundly. :)  It was so hot, the kids rushed through as quickly as possible, but they still had fun.
The rest of the time was spent eating yummy food.  We drove to a small town that reminded me of Mayberry and sat in the mercantile to enjoy huge ice cream sundaes!
We also made a quick trip to Powell's Sweet Shoppe.  If you are ever in Boise and get the chance, stop in, it was a lot of fun.  They have all types of candy imaginable, including stuff that it really hard to find from back in the day.
Right as you walk in there is a machine that will make you cotton candy.  We told the kids they could pick out one treat and this is what they chose. :)  In the picture below they are watching it being made and then we had to get pictures of them with their prize!
Dan wanted to try the chocolate covered bacon on a stick.  Let's just say bacon doesn't make everything better.  It was just okay.  I chose out a 1/4 lb. dark chocolate haystack.  It was delicious, and took me a couple of days to eat. :)  We had lots of fun, thanks for having us mom and dad!
